Welcome to SNG Return Grants page
Welcome to the webpage for the CTU Return Grants Scheme – a programme that helps researchers return to their academic careers. Grants are here for CTU researchers and PhD students after a career break and provide the foundation for a new start: time for research, support for career development and space for balancing professional and private life.
SNG APP
Please use the SNG App to submit return grant applications.

Who is the grant for?
A new start in research. The grant supports CTU researchers after a career break – from PhD students to academic staff who want to return to full time research.

Where do I get the information?
All the important stuff in one place. This website collects all the information on the grant – primarily in tags Scheme, Documents and FAQ. If you are still unsure, get individual support from people in the Contacts section who will be happy to provide advice.

How do I apply?
It’s easy and online. The Return Grant application is submitted in an electronic app directly from this website in the SNG App tab. The app will lead you step by step through the whole process, it provides clear support and will help you with completing all the required data and attachments.

Update of Conditions for Involvement of the Expert Team
14. 4. 2026
We would like to inform you about an update to the rules governing the involvement of the expert team in return grant projects.
It is no longer required to maintain an expert team for the entire duration of the project. The expert team may now be involved only during a specific part of the project implementation, with a minimum duration of one month. The minimum workload is set at 0.1 FTE per person per month.
Deadline Change for Outputs in CTU Return Grants
9. 4. 2026
In connection with the correction of incorrect wording in the Return Grants Guide at CTU, Guidance Note No. 1 for the CTU Return Grants Competition has been issued.
The Guidance Note amends the section concerning project outputs (Section III, point D). Specifically, it changes the deadline for submitting selected publication outputs—particularly publications in the first quartile of the most influential journals in the field.
Whereas these outputs previously had to be documented no later than one year from the start of the project’s physical implementation, the new deadline is set to one year from the completion of the project’s physical implementation. All other outputs remain unchanged and must be submitted no later than with the Final Activity Report.
This adjustment provides project holders with more time to achieve high-quality publication results.
You can now register for the “Information for Science and Research” course organised by the CTU Central Library. The course takes place from 14 April 2026 to 26 May 2026 (every Tuesday). It is intended for people who are currently on a career break or are returning from a career break to do research at CTU. Further information, including the application form, is available here.
The first round of the Return Grants Scheme is expected to open in the second half of April 2026.
