Other Activities
An integral part of the CTU Return Grants Scheme (SNG) is expert and advisory support for applicants and researchers on a career break. These services are provided by specialised CTU institutions – the CTU Central Library (CL) and the Centre for Information and Counselling Services (CIPS).
The aim is to facilitate the completion of grant applications, support high-quality scholarly work and assist researchers in returning to research.
Prospective applicants are advised to regularly check the websites of the CTU Central Library and CIPS, where current dates of courses, seminars, consultations and other support activities are published on a regular basis.
CTU Central Library (CL)
The Central Library provides expert support in the areas of scholarly publishing, Open Science and research data management.
Support for return grants applicants
Applicants may use individual consultations on the following topics:
- Open Access publishing
- Data Management and FAIR principles
- completing the grant application annex related to Open Science
- publication strategy and selecting a suitable journal
- working with citation databases and research outputs evaluation
Consultations are provided on an individual basis – in person, online, or by email.
Information for Science and Research course
For researchers on a career break, a specialised course will be offered focusing on:
- current trends in scholarly publishing
- changes in relation to Open Access
- using information resources for scholars
- using various tools (including AI) when working with information
- research data management and sharing
The course is delivered regularly during the academic year and is complemented by the possibility of individual consultations. Please consult the Central Library website for further details


CTU Centre for Information and Counselling Services (CIPS)
CIPS focuses on career development and on supporting researchers returning to the research and academic environment.
“Successful Return” seminar
The seminar is aimed at researchers and PhD students on a career break. It focuses on:
- opportunities for involvement in research activities during a career break
- orientation in available CTU support instruments
- planning a return to the academic environment
- balancing professional and personal life

CIPS is preparing a special document which will provide an overview of:
- opportunities for involvement in research during a career break
- available forms of support upon return
- practical steps to take before and after returning
Individual counselling
CIPS also offers individual consultations in addressing specific situations when returning after a career break
Upcoming Workshops and Training
TIME MANAGEMENT FOR WORK–LIFE BALANCE
The Information and Counselling Centre of CTU invites employees to a seminar on Time Management for Work–Life Balance.
The seminar will take place on Thursday, 11 June, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at CIPS, Bechyňova 3, Prague 6.
It is intended for researchers and academic staff returning to research work after a career break (e.g. parental leave or another longer interruption) at CTU. Participation is free of charge.
The seminar is organised within the Back to CTU project funded by the OP JAK programme.
